There are several things we can thank France for giving us—Hermès, Marion Cotillard, Dom Perignon. And now Austinites have one more thing to praise the audacious French for inspiring engineer turned pâtissier, Soraiya Nagree, to open La Pâtisserie by Luxe Sweets. La Pâtisserie, an authentic French pâtisserie, is set to open in mid-November in a converted lavender-hued house on the corner of South First and West Annie.
Nagree, owner of the already successful brand, Luxe Sweets, and the commercial kitchen in East Austin, The Kitchen Space, decided to make her childhood dream of opening a Parisian sweet shop a reality by opening La Pâtisserie by Luxe Sweets. “I have had 20 years of dreaming and planning that I finally get to turn into a reality. La Pâtisserie is about making people connect to an element of French lifestyle and Paris that I find to be so enchanting. And what better way to connect than through food. After all, life is too short not to enjoy delicious sweets,” says Nagree.
Patrons can expect to be whisked away to the sights and smells of Paris when they step into the pâtisserie with gleaming glass cases full of Nagree’s signature, vibrantly-colored French macarons, palmiers, chocolate éclairs and opera cakes—even President Sarkozy’s mouth would water. Personalized stainless steel French presses and state-of-the-art espresso machine and coffee grinder are perfect for the java snob, along with homemade mocha syrup and hot chocolate. Giant jars filled with pastel-colored dragèes, nougat, and tins of French tea will flank the counter. There will even be a play area for the children, an oasis of sorts for overextended mommies (and daddies) seeking refuge in a warm croissant or pain au chocolat. If you can’t find it in France, you won’t find it at La Pâtisserie.
Soraiya and the shop manager, Mary Partney, will always be on hand to help choose your perfect Parisian pastry or help guests order one of their specialty cakes, like the macaron cake or the divine pistachio and raspberry chocolate cake, for your next fête.
La Pâtisserie by Luxe Sweets is located at 602 West Annie Street in South Austin and features sweet French staples such as the signature macarons, palmiers and morning buns, along with personalized coffee and tea service.
